A multi-wrap bracelet of aged peach wood and pale Hetian jade — strung in the Daoist tradition of an shen jing xin, "calming the spirit, quieting the heart." The Way's gentlest medicine, worn at the wrist.

Peach Wood — The Most Sacred Wood of the Daoist Tradition

Of all the woods used in Chinese spiritual craft, none is more deeply tied to Daoism than peach. In the old mythology, the peach was the fruit of immortality, grown in the orchards of Xiwangmu — the Queen Mother of the West — on the heights of Mount Kunlun. The wood that bore that fruit was believed to carry the same protective virtue: capable of binding demons, sealing doorways, and turning aside any qi that wished the household ill.

This is why the tao mu jian — the peach wood sword — is the iconic ritual instrument of the Daoist priest. It is why the very first New Year's couplets in China were carved on peach wood plaques (tao fu), invoking the gate-guardian gods Shen Tu and Yu Lü to bind any spirits seeking entry. And it is why mothers have long placed peach wood charms beside a sleeping child's pillow to keep nightmares at bay.

Aged peach wood — Lao Tao Mu — is considered the most powerful of all. The longer the tree has stood, the deeper its protective resonance is said to run.

Hetian White Jade — The Stone of Virtue and Stillness

At the centre rest beads of Hetian white jade, the most revered of all Chinese jades. Dense, cool, and silken to the touch, it has been the stone of sages, scholars, and Daoist masters for over three thousand years. In the classical tradition it is said to preserve the body's yang, soften restless intention, and quietly turn aside baleful influence — a wearable embodiment of the Daoist ideal that true strength is gentle, and true gentleness is unmovable.

Where peach wood protects from without, Hetian jade composes from within.

Five Elements · Water + Wood — The Generative Cycle

In Daoist cosmology, Water nourishes Wood — shui sheng mu — the most restorative pair in the entire elemental cycle. Water (the cool stillness of Hetian jade) feeds Wood (the rising vitality of peach), the same way deep groundwater feeds a tree's roots. Translated into the body, this is the healing axis Chinese medicine describes as kidney essence (jing) nourishing liver function: the deepest available antidote to anxiety, overthinking, and the wired-tired exhaustion of modern life. This bracelet is, quite literally, that cycle made wearable.

An Shen Jing Xin — A Daoist Practice for Sleep and Stress

"Calm the spirit, quiet the heart-mind." In the older monastic tradition, this was the closing practice after long ritual work — a gentle discharge of accumulated charge before sleep. The same principle answers a very modern problem: a nervous system that cannot find its off-switch.

To practise with the bracelet:

  • Touch a single bead. Count one slow inhale.
  • Move to the next bead. Count one slow exhale.
  • Continue around the wrap. By the time you have completed one full revolution, the breath has lengthened, the shoulders have softened, and the inner field has begun to gather.

The Golden Peace Lock (Ping An Suo)

A small golden charm hangs at the side, shaped after the traditional ping an suo — the "peace lock" — a beloved Chinese amulet given to children and women to "lock in" safety, health, and well-being. Together with the peach wood's protective resonance, it forms a doubled circle of guardianship: peach to repel, lock to retain.

Crafted to Last

  • Aged peach wood beads (approx. 8 mm), naturally grown, hand-polished
  • 108-bead configuration, worn as a 2–3 wrap bracelet
  • Hetian white jade barrel feature bead with three matched round jade accents
  • Gold-tone metal spacer caps and peace lock charm
  • Strung on durable elastic cord
  • Sized for women and slimmer wrists — wraps 2–3 times, fits 14–17 cm

Care

Peach wood is porous and naturally retains its honey-warm colour, asking only to be kept dry. Avoid water, perfume, and lotion. Wipe with a clean dry cloth after wear, and warm the jade often against the skin — it deepens in lustre with body contact. If the bracelet ever absorbs moisture, allow it to air-dry away from direct sun before storing in its silk pouch.

Shipped with a Zenflowing silk pouch and intention card.
